The Show Down: Mind vs. Body

There are a thousand ways your body can shut you down. I was pushing through the exhaustion, telling myself, “Just a little more, I can handle it.” The next thing I knew, my body said, “Enough.” And it meant it.

I couldn’t do the things I needed to do. I couldn’t enjoy the things I wanted to do. My body pulled the emergency brake because I wouldn’t.

Looking back, the signs were there:

  • The mornings that felt heavier than they should

  • The foggy brain that wouldn’t clear

  • The short fuse over little things

  • That deep, quiet fatigue I kept ignoring

I knew better, but I ran every red light my body put in front of me as if I had an infinite supply of energy. I don’t. You don’t. None of us do.

When we run past the warning signs long enough, our body will sit us down without permission — for as long as it takes. For me, it was a little over a week.

Now, as summer’s heat fades into autumn’s hustle — back-to-school schedules, endless to-do lists, cooler mornings that tempt us to move faster, I want to remind the Hermonious community, now is a good time to pause and check in.

This week’s Thoughtful Thursday takeaway:

Rest isn’t optional. It’s not lazy. It’s not selfish. It’s survival. Take care of yourself now — before your body makes the choice for you.

With harmony and light,
