How I Came to Find This Truth: Rest is Luxury

I had to step away for a little while to gather myself, my thoughts, my mind, and my emotions. It felt as though everything was demanding my attention all at once.

Slowly but surely, I am finding my way back.

Many of you have been part of this Hermonious community for quite some time, so you probably noticed I hadn't written in a while. Before I share what happened, I want to begin with something I have always promised myself and this community:

I will never pretend to be okay simply because it's easier than telling the truth.

Over the past several weeks, I found myself slipping into a place I hadn't visited in quite some time. I became overwhelmed. The things that normally brought me joy no longer sparked excitement. Writing became difficult. Creating became exhausting. Even showing up for this beautiful community felt heavier than it ever had before.

For a moment, I questioned myself.

Then I remembered something healing has taught me over the years:

Healing is not linear.

Sometimes we revisit places we thought we had already conquered, not because we've failed, but because life has a way of asking us to pause before we continue growing.

Instead of criticizing myself for feeling different, I leaned into three things that have become pillars of my healing journey.

Self-awareness.

I paid attention to what my mind and body were trying to tell me instead of pushing through the discomfort.

Self-compassion.

I stopped expecting myself to operate at full capacity while carrying emotional weight. I gave myself permission to be human.

Self-soothing.

Rather than ignoring my emotions, I intentionally created moments of peace that reminded my nervous system it was safe.

One of the greatest acts of self-love I gave myself was returning to therapy.

There is incredible strength in recognizing when you need professional support.

I realized I couldn't simply "positive think" my way through what I was experiencing. I needed someone trained to help me process what my heart and mind were carrying.

And I am so grateful I did.

One of the biggest discoveries I made during this season was that what I needed wasn't more sleep.

I needed deep rest.

The kind of rest that quiets your nervous system.

The kind of rest that releases the pressure you've been silently carrying.

The kind of rest that allows your soul to exhale.

As I slowly found my way back to myself, these simple practices became part of my healing:

• Spending quiet time in prayer, reflection, and simply sitting with my thoughts without judgment.

• Returning to therapy and allowing myself to receive professional guidance and support.

• Reading books that nourished my mind instead of consuming endless media.

• Taking slow walks, breathing deeply, and allowing myself to move without rushing.

• Journaling honestly, giving my emotions a safe place to exist.

• Spending intentional time with my family, allowing their love to remind me that I didn't have to carry everything alone.

• Caring for my sweet emotional support dog, Heart. She gently reminded me to slow down, stay present, and appreciate life's quieter moments. Loving and caring for her became a form of mindfulness that healed me in ways I never expected.

• Giving myself permission to rest without guilt and understanding that productivity is never the measure of my worth.

Today, I feel myself returning.

Not because everything around me changed...

But because I listened to what I needed before I completely lost myself.

Sometimes the bravest thing we can do isn't to keep pushing.

Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is pause.

If you're reading this and you've been feeling emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected from the things you once loved, please know this:

There is absolutely no shame in asking for help.

If you or someone you love is struggling with their mental health, I encourage you to reach out to a licensed mental health professional. Life moves quickly.

The demands of work, family, relationships, grief, social media, and the constant noise of the world can quietly become heavier than we realize.

Seeking help is not a sign of weakness.

It is an act of courage.

It is an act of self-respect.

It is an act of hope.

As a community, let's continue looking after ourselves and one another with compassion. Sometimes the strongest thing we can say is, "I'm not okay, and I need support."

Healing doesn't always look like moving forward.

Sometimes healing looks like resting long enough to remember who you are.

Thank you for allowing me the space to return to you.

A Question for Our Hermonious Community

Have you ever experienced a season when your mind and body were asking for rest instead of productivity?

What practices helped you reconnect with yourself?

If you're comfortable sharing, your story may be exactly what someone else needs to hear today. Your honesty could become someone else's hope.

Because this season reminded me just how sacred rest truly is, I wanted to create something tangible that reflects that message. Consider this a gentle reminder to slow down and prioritize yourself. Better yet, purchase one for yourself and another for someone you love who could use a little extra encouragement on their self-care journey.

Now through July 31, 2026, enjoy our Hermonious Special: Buy One, Get One 50% Off our entire Sip with Intention Collection.

I'm especially excited to introduce three new Hermonious affirmation tumblers inspired by this very journey:

Rest Is Luxury

Wrapped in Peace

Rest Is a Form of Self-Respect

These aren't just tumblers, they're daily reminders to slow down, breathe deeply, and choose yourself.

One of my favorite things is carrying mine in public because they often become unexpected conversation starters. People will stop, smile, read the affirmation, and ask where I found it. Those simple exchanges remind me that kindness, encouragement, and healing have a beautiful way of finding us when we least expect them.

If you enjoy stories of healing, love, and emotional growth, pair your tumbler with my novel, Simply Lace: Finding Love Through Loss. Together they create a beautiful ritual of reflection for both the heart and the soul.

You deserve daily moments that remind you, your peace matters.

You deserve daily reminders that rest is not a reward, it is a necessity.

You deserve to remember that rest is luxury.
