Elevating My Life Through Spiritual Hygiene

As the holidays approach, I’ve noticed more than ever how important it is to stay grounded, clear, and connected. The season, while filled with joy and togetherness, can also bring stress, overwhelm, and emotional clutter that quietly weigh us down. I’ve come to realize that spiritual hygiene is the key to moving through this season and life itself with grace, light, and peace.

I’ll be transparent with you: I’ve been practicing spiritual hygiene for years, but recently I got away from my daily routine. I could feel the difference almost immediately just like unthinkably skipping brushing my teeth or forgetting to take a shower. When I neglect my spiritual hygiene, I feel it deep in my body and my energy.

I notice myself becoming more irritable, off balance, and drained after even simple interactions. My thoughts get cloudy, my focus drifts, and sometimes I feel disconnected from my purpose and even from myself. There are days I’ve caught myself slouching, my posture folding inward as if my spirit was trying to remind me it needed attention. And when I lay down at night, even in physical rest, my mind keeps running. I struggle to fully unwind.

That’s when I knew I needed to return to what centers me: my spiritual hygiene practice.

When I commit to this daily ritual, everything shifts. My mornings feel lighter, my intuition sharpens, and I move through the day with calm and confidence, no matter what’s swirling around me. My energy feels aligned open but protected and I can sense the difference between what’s mine and what I’ve absorbed from the world.

What Spiritual Hygiene Means to Me

For me, spiritual hygiene is a sacred act of energetic cleansing and self-renewal a way to clear what doesn’t belong to me and fill myself with what does: peace, light, and love. It’s not about perfection; it’s about presence.

Just like we care for our physical bodies every day, tending to our spiritual energy keeps our inner world fresh, balanced, and radiant. When I skip it, my day reflects that. When I honor it, my whole being thanks me.

My Daily Practice

Here’s how I practice my spiritual hygiene each morning, feel free to make it your own:

  1. Centering Breath: I begin with slow, intentional breathing inhaling clarity, exhaling heaviness.

  2. Affirmation Sip: I drink from my Hermonious Affirmation Tumbler, repeating my daily mantra as I sip herbal tea or infused water. It’s a simple but powerful reminder that I’m filling my body and spirit with intention.

  3. Energy Cleansing: Whether through smoke cleansing, sound bowls, or a warm salt bath at night, I clear stagnant energy and call in light.

  4. Grounding & Gratitude: I visualize roots extending from my feet into the earth, releasing what no longer serves me. Then, I speak gratitude aloud because gratitude realigns the heart faster than anything I know.

  5. Reflection: At the end of the day, I journal what I noticed how I felt, what flowed easily, and what lessons revealed themselves.

Why It’s So Essential

When practiced daily, spiritual hygiene helps me:

  • Stay centered and calm in chaotic environments.

  • Strengthen my intuition and emotional resilience.

  • Create energetic boundaries that protect my peace.

  • Feel more connected to my higher self and purpose.

I’ve learned that the more consistent I am, the more gracefully I can move through challenges and the quicker I return to balance when life throws me off.

Whether you practice every morning, a few times a week, or during moments of stress, your spiritual hygiene practice becomes your anchor — your way home to yourself.

Let's reflect:

This week, I invite you to pause and ask yourself:

💭 Where in my life do I need an energetic reset?

💭 What habits, relationships, or thoughts feel heavy — and what practices bring me back to peace?

💭 How can I create space for more spiritual clarity as I enter this holiday season?

Take a moment to journal your reflections, sip from your affirmation tumbler, and remind yourself: Peace is a practice — and spiritual hygiene is how we return to it.
